Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce

The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. (WACCC) is a non-profit organisation.

Established in 1987, the inception of WACCC was timely. The objective of the formation of the WACCC was to address the dire need for a channel where the locals and business migrants could interact, and to champion the cause of the Chinese community. To fulfil this objective, membership opened to individuals of all racial backgrounds was introduced. The system has served to cultivate a better understanding between the local and Chinese business communities, improving the environment of intolerance, suspicion and discrimination.

Today, the WACCC is dedicated to developing increased trade, investment and business activities by assisting Western Australian and Asia companies, professionals and the general public to better understand the business environment and cultural traditions relevant to successfully doing business in Australia and Asia.

Who Can Join

Priority is given to international students staying in Perth for Lunar New Year or those aged 40 and under.
Non-citizens are also welcome to join!
Event is conducted in Mandarin, Chinese.

Speakers

Elvie Yap

Chairperson at Culture Care WA

Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Elvie grew up in a multicultural society. She speaks five languages. In July 2002, she arrived in Perth as an international student to complete her studies for a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications (Journalism and Media Studies Major).

Elvie specialises in media, communications and community development for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) community. She has over 18 years of experience working with the CaLD community through her various roles in ethnic media, community events, aged care and migrant services.

She is passionate about bringing positive social, economic and psychological impact to individuals and families who have English as their second language. Elvie aims to assist them to fully participate in all aspects of life in the local community without the fear of discrimination.
